Rogers is a music professor at USC who has been commissioned to scribble works for musicians and groups round the country. Bush performs internationally as a soloist and in chamber groups. He has got performed with the Philip Glass and Steve Reich ensembles on and off for twenty years. Elliott is a professor in the womens studies dep. at USC. Her doctoral dissertation was one of 3 winners of the Great Yank Novel Award at the Virginia holiday of the Book in 2003. Other fellowship winners were Mindy Friddle, Greenville County, poetry ; and Dan Albergotti and Sally Arango Renata, both of Horry County, for poetry. The commission also picked winners of the S.C. Fiction project : Johnny R Beavers, Greeleyville ; Tony Bertauski, Charleston ; Cynthia Boiter, Chapin ; Kim Catanzarite, Charleston ; Phillip Gardner, Darlington ; Ed Madden, Columbia ; James D McCallister, West Columbia ; Alisha Reid, Columbia ; Jocelyn Rish, Summerville ; Jean Robbins, Seneca ; Doug Wedge, Charleston ; and David A Wright, Columbia. Mezzo-soprano Helen Tintes-Schuermann, an aid professor of music at USC, has joined forces with Spanish pianist Julio Alexis Munoz for the CD Para Entonces : Spanish Poetry in 20th-21st Century Song. Tintes-Schuermann has performed through Europe and the US and lately sang with the Augusta Symphony, the Charlotte Symphony and the Bach Ensemble in Naples, Fla. She teaches a Spanish music course in Madrid, Spain. Munoz has performed thru Europe, the US and the Far East. The recording on the MSR Classical label includes works by Manuel De Falla, Eduardo Toldra and Joaquin Rodrigo and a new piece, Para Entonces, written for the recording by Dick Goodwin of Columbia. It was recorded in Columbia and produced by Tintes-Schuermann and Goodwin. Artist Mike Williams of Columbia has a summer show at Pawleys Island. The fifteen paintings are on view thru July nineteen at the Cheryl Newby studio. Williams, a Sumter local and USC graduate, creates paintings and sculptures that combine noted nature and condensation. Jose Carrion, orchestra teacher at Richland Northeast highschool, has a fellowship with the nation's Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Carrion, a double bassist who studied at USC, was invited into the program when the nation's Symphony toured South Carolina last Q4. His program, which started in early July, continues thru early Aug.
