6th Hitchhiker book commissioned

A youngsters's writer has been commissioned to draft the 1st post-mortem instalment to the top selling Hitchhiker's Guide To The Universe series. Now the writer's widow, Jane Belson, has given her approval to the plan by publisher Penguin to revive the hapless Arthur Dent in a 6th book, titled And Another Thing. Colfer, 43, was an elementary school teacher in Eire before he secured the biggest ever advance for a youngsters's novel by an unknown writer. His Artemis Fowl series went on to sell more than 18,000,000 copies worldwide and a film adaptation is due to go into production next year. The writer stated that he was "terrified" by the chance of making a new Hitchhiker book roughly a quarter of a century after being introduced to what he called a "slice of humorous genius" in his late teenagers. He announced : "My 1st reaction was semi-outrage that anybody should be permitted to fiddle with this phenomenal series. But on reflection I realized that this may be a smashing chance to work with characters I have loved since childhood and give them something of my very own voice whilst holding on to the tradition of Douglas Adams". He added : "I feel more pressure to perform now than I ever have with my books, and that is why I am bloody determined this will be the smartest thing I have ever written. Being given the opportunity to write this book is like all of a sudden being offered the superpower of your decision. For years I have been finishing this fantastic story in my head and now I have the chance to do it in real life. Adams keeled over from heart failure in 2001, at the age of 49. Around 16,000,000 copies of his Hitchhiker books have been sold around the globe, interpreted into 35 languages.
